LEGO designers are visiting South Africa for a signing session

  • Milan Madge and Ollie Gregory are LEGO designers who will be in South Africa next week.
  • You can meet the pair and have them sign the sets that they worked on.
  • Double VIP Points will also be given to customers buying sets for this purpose.

South African LEGO fans have a very unique opportunity happening next week as a pair of LEGO designers will be in the country for them to meet and maybe to even have their sets signed.

For those unaware, LEGO designers are the ones who actually create the many sets that you can buy. It’s their job not only to conceptualise and build toys that will become mass produced, but then also to further engineer them to meet certain requirements like structural integrity, play functions, budgets and more.

Having tried our hands at designing builds ourselves, we can report that it’s a difficult job and LEGO fans usually hold the designers in high regard.

It’s this high regard that also leads fans to want to have their sets signed by the designers. The public will get the chance to do this when Madge and Gregory visit the country next week.

Below are the details of the event:

  • Place: LEGO Certified Store in the Sandton City Shopping Centre,
  • Date: 16th May 2023,
  • Time: 16:00 – 18:00.

Those who want to buy sets for signage can also get Double VIP Points in the store. For an explanation on VIP Points and buying LEGO in South Africa, see our recent and extensive guide here.

For a better idea of which sets each designer has worked on, it’s best to check out Brickset. This site is a database of all things LEGO and a feature added recently will list the designer(s) who worked on each set.

Sets designed by Milan Madge and sets designed by Ollie Gregory can be seen on Brickset by following those links.

The pair has a lot of great sets to their name but our favourite may be 76217: I am Groot from Gregory. We may just have Groot on the brain after we reviewed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 recently.

Madge, on the other hand, is one of the designers on 10305: Lion Knights’ Castle. This is widely regarded as one of the best sets of recent years on its own merit, and also because it’s a modern remake of the original LEGO castle from 1984.
