8000 Youth Day jobs launch for Gauteng, here’s how to find them

  • Gauteng will list 8 000 new jobs for residents as part of its Youth Day celebrations.
  • Interested parties can apply for the jobs online, or in-person via pop-up walk-in centres.
  • The jobs are apparently permanent will be varried across many different industries.

Since the beginning of the month Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has been promising the residents of South Africa’s economic hub “thousands and thousands” of jobs. These are set to be around 8 000 new permanent government positions, according to a speech the premier gave in Brakpan.

During the speech, the premier alluded to local government’s efforts in starting to fix the enormous youth unemployment rate in Gauteng.

The to-be-listed jobs range from drivers, receptionists, cleaners, artists, security officials, social workers, media officers, engineers, and there is even a chief financial officer position, according to government.

Earlier this month we tried to look for the jobs following the links provided by Lesufi and the official Gauteng provincial government Twitter account but had no luck as the links led to dead or none existant webpages.

It seems the jobs will only be listed on Friday 16th June 2023. The positions will be available for applications both online and at pop-up walk in centres across the province. All applications are free and will be open from 16th June to 14th July 2023

Additionally, to make it easier for residents to apply, Gauteng has made arrangements with Vodacom to zero rate online applications, meaning that these sites will not use any cellular data for Vodacom customers.

How to find the Gauteng jobs online:

To apply online head to the Gauteng jobs page or this website on Youth Day, 16th June 2023. Importantly, jobs are available to Gauteng residents only.

The provincial government has outlined how online applications work, namely:

  • First time applicants will have to register and create a profile on the Gauteng jovs portal, linked above,
  • Existing users simply need to login with their details on the same portal,
  • Applicants need to make sure their CVs are complete before applying,
  • The jobs will be listed below. Once you select a job you are interested in, read the requirements and follow the on-screen instructions after selecting “apply”,
  • You will need to attach the documents required, including identification documents and similar,
  • You will need to answer a set of criteria questions alongside your uploaded documents to make sure your qualifications are correct.

One document that is required will be the Z83 form. This can be found here (PDF). It will need to be signed.

Requirements for pop-up walk in centres:

Additionally, pop up centres will be established on Youth Day where individuals from across the province can take their documentation, including CVs and Z83 forms and apply with the help of officials.

These centres also have a set of requirements that differ slightly from online applications. These include:

  • Once you arrive and queue at the centre, you will be assisted and will be required to present your completed Z83 form and CV, in paper,
  • You need to have a job already in mind, as you will be directed to the department that you are applying for,
  • Applicants with existing profiles will be aided to apply on the online portal,
  • Once the application is complete it will be signed and stamped by the department in question.

Apparently only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified documents, but all will require CVs and Z83 forms.

The locations of two walk-in centres have been given, but only in Tshwane. The Twitter account of the premier could have more information on 16th June.
