• Honor held an event for the Middle East and Africa launch of its new Honor 90 series in Dubai this week.
• At the event, Honor’s MEA executives confirmed that the the Honor 90 and 90 Lite are slated to release in South Africa.
• No official local pricing has been mentioned yet, but the devices are expected to launch in September this year.

This week Honor held a launch event for its new Honor 90 series of smartphones in Dubai. The event was for the entire Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, with the devices already going up for pre-order in some countries, but South Africans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the latest offerings from the phone maker.

This as Honor’s president for MEA, Daniel Wang, confirmed the two devices’ local arrival in a roundtable for South African media after the launch event.

Wang did not disclose a precise date, but did mention that Honor has big plans for South Africa moving forward, especially as SA is the second best performing market for the company in the MEA region, sitting only behind Saudi Arabia.

“As part of HONOR 90 Series, HONOR revealed HONOR 90 Lite 5G, featuring a rear 100MP triple camera system, 6.7-inch Edgeless Display, 13GB (8+5) RAM + 256 ROM storage, 4500mAh battery, besides its slim and elegant design. The highly anticipated HONOR 90 5G & HONOR 90 Lite 5G are set to make their debut in several countries across the Middle East region, including the UAE, KSA, Iraq, South Africa, and other selected countries,” the company added in a press release sent to Hypertext.

While we are still awaiting full recommended pricing for both the 90 and 90 Lite, price tags in some regions start from $599 and $299 respectively. With a number of Chinese phone makers launching new devices locally in recent months, it will be interesting to see what Honor opts for in terms of pricing in order to keep its latest series of devices competitive.
