The “free” PlayStation Plus games for July 2023

  • PlayStation has announced the next lineup of free games for paying PlayStation Plus subscribers.
  • This month, Call of Duty features as the marquee title, while Alan Wake Remaster and indie game Endling round up the selection.
  • All three games will become available on Tuesday 4th July 2023 on both the PS4 and PS5.

The leaves are bronze, the mornings are cold and black smoke billows from the veld. It must be July and that means new PlayStation Plus games are heading to subscribers.

This month, PlayStation has three games slated for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which will become available to download from 4th July 2023.

Headlining the group is Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and apart from being a mouthful, this game comes with an insane zombie shooting mode and a somewhat in-depth single-player campaign that will see you explore the political turmoil of the period.

“Black Ops Cold War drops fans into the depths of the Cold War’s volatile geopolitical battle of the early 1980s. Come face-to-face with historical figures and hard truths as you battle around the globe in iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more,” explains PlayStation in an official blog post.

There is also, of course, the Call of Duty multiplayer to experience here, which will no doubt be inflated with new players for a few days after this game arrives in PlayStation Plus.

Next up, we have the remastered version of Alan Wake. Remedy Entertainment’s (Control, Max Payne) psychological thriller which sees you battle ghostly beings with light.

“Troubled author Alan Wake embarks on a desperate search for his missing wife, Alice. Following her mysterious disappearance from the Pacific Northwest town of Bright Falls, he discovers pages of a horror story he has supposedly written, but he has no memory of,” reads the game’s blurb.

For those interested in perhaps trying out the upcoming Alan Wake II in October this year, the Alan Wake remaster with completely redone graphics and new features will be the best way to get into the series. Especially if you’re a subscriber.

As always, Sony includes an independent game with its monthly subscriber lineup, and this month we are getting Endling – Extinction is Forever.

Get ready to sob uncontrollably as you play as the last fox on Earth as she tries to keep her three cubs safe.

This eco-conscious adventure tells of a future in which mankind lets the world become an uninhabitable mess.

“Discover the destructive force of the human race as it corrupts, pollutes and exploits the most precious and valuable resources of the natural environment day by day. Explore various 3D side-scrolling areas and defend your tiny furballs, feed them, watch them grow up, notice their unique personalities and fears and most importantly, help them to survive.”

The trailer shows off the beautiful stylised graphics and we have a feeling this one doesn’t end well folks.

Again, all three of these games can be played on PS4 or PS5 consoles. Additionally, subscribers will have until Monday 3rd July to download June’s PlayStation Plus games, including NBA 2K23.
