Coca-Cola has a new mystery flavour co-created with AI

  • AI is officially everywhere as Coca-Cola has unveiled a new mystery flavour that is said to be co-created using Artificial Intelligence.
  • The flavour is called Y3000 Zero Sugar, and is designed to give drinkers a taste “of the future”.
  • It will go on sale in selected markets, but it’s unclear if that includes South Africa at this stage.

Ever wondered what the future tastes like? Coca-Cola thinks it has an idea, and the beverage giant is leveraging artificial intelligence to do so.

This as the company has unveiled a new mystery flavour called Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar.

“Co-created with artificial intelligence, the design showcases liquid in a morphing, evolving state, communicated through form and color changes that emphasize a positive future. A light-toned color palette featuring violet, magenta and cyan against a silver base gives a futuristic feel. The iconic Spencerian Script features a connected matrix with fluid dot clusters that merge to represent the human connections of our future planet,” it noted regarding the flavour profile and can design.

The new flavour comes out of the company’s Coca-Cola Creations division, which aims to blend together unique profiles in order to come up with carbonated drinks that epitomise intangible themes like music, gaming, and sports. Among same of the past creations are Move, Starlight, Zero Sugar Byte, Dreamworld, Soul Blast, and more.

“The zero-sugar offering will be available for a limited time in select markets including the United States, Canada, China, Europe and Africa,” the beverage maker pointed out in a blog post. At the time of writing, it is unclear if countries like SA will make the cut.

Along with the new flavour, and accompanying interactive experience is available for Y3000 Zero Sugar too.

Here a QR code features on the can, that will take consumers to a Creations Hub where they can view their current landscape as a futuristic version thanks to some clearly augmented reality overlay on their smartphones.

It remains to be seen whether this new product will take off among consumers, but given it has an AI element to it, Coca-Cola is no doubt hoping it garners plenty of hype.

Is this slightly gimmicky? Yes. Do we want to taste it? Also, yes.
