- Eskom has shared its loadshedding schedule for the rest of the week.
- The power utility will implement a mix of Stage 5 and Stage 6 loadshedding until Friday, 15th September.
- The loss of four generating units has necessitated the need to replenish reserves, according to Eskom.
This week promises to be another tough one for South Africans as Eskom has shared its loadshedding schedule for the rest of the week.
Earlier today, we reported on an increase to Stage 5 loadshedding, with the situation changing for the worse almost daily.
The latest communication from the power utility is that Stage 5 and Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from today until Friday, 15th September. Given that Eskom has already lost four key generating units, which is why loadshedding has intensified this week, there is still a chance that no return in capacity could lead to higher levels in the coming days.
“The delay in returning to service a generating unit each at Hendrina, Kendal, Matimba and Matla Tutuka is also contributing to the current capacity constraints,” it confirmed in a power alert shared on X less than an hour ago.
“Eskom’s load for evening peak demand is forecasted to increase to 29 542MW. We appeal to members of the public to reduce demand by switching off non-essential appliances,” it urged.
Given the current spate of loadshedding, those calls will not be heeded, especially as the utility saw fit to reduce the stages of loadshedding over the weekend only for citizens to be saddled with higher levels this week.
As for the current loadshedding schedule, it is as follows:
