Honor debuts X6a and X5 Plus entry-level phones locally

  • Honor has announced two new entry-level smartphones for South Africa.
  • The new offerings are the Honor X6a and Honor X5 Plus.
  • Both devices are available to purchase now, retailing for less than R3 300.

A little over a month ago, Honor debuted its latest flagship phone for South Africans, but now the smartphone maker has two new entry-level devices available to purchase locally in the form of the X6a and X5 Plus.

Both devices are available to purchase in SA now, and looking at the specifications on offer, there is little to separate the two.

On that front, both the X6a and X5 Plus feature large 6.56″ displays, along with teardrop notches on the screen that house a 5MP selfie camera. The rear camera arrays are identical too, with a 50MP primary lens onboard to take pictures and video.

Looking internally things start to differentiate, although a MediaTek Helio G36 chipset is present in both phones. On the RAM side of things, 4GB flavours are available, but the X6a also features a 6GB version. The X6a also features double the onboard storage of the X5 Plus at 128GB, and as far the battery capacities, the same 5 200mAh offering is found in each of these phones.

It is the slightly better RAM and storage that sees the X6a priced higher than the X5 Plus, but neither breach the R3 500 mark.

To that end, Honor says the X6a is expected to retail for R3 299 and the X5 Plus is listed at R2 699. In terms of colour options, the former comes in Sky Silver or Cyan Lake, and the latter is available in Midnight Black or Cyan Lake.
