RCT: Don’t overpay for your PC peripherals

From desktops to notebooks, tablets to Chromebooks, Windows to Linux, it doesn’t matter where you do your work, school or play, your PC needs peripherals to function.

Local technology distributor Rectron knows this better than anyone which is why it offers the RCT brand of competitively priced peripherals to South Africans through rctzone.co.za. Rectron not only knows what peripherals you need but also that you don’t want to break the bank.

A sterling example of great quality and price from RCT is this mouse which is only R70 excluding VAT. As you can see in the image below this mouse has extra buttons for your thumbs.

If you haven’t used a mouse like this before you are really missing out.

Want our suggestion? Map one of the thumb buttons to act as a middle mouse click. For those who don’t know this is what happens when you push in your mouse wheel on most devices. By default this has two main uses in internet browsers – opening a link in a new tab (when clicking on a link) and closing a tab (when clicking on that tab at the top of the browser).

This makes internet use so much faster and we’re not sure how we got around the web without it. As so many programmes and services are hosted online these days you can navigate your entire workflow with this ease of use.

While you can, of course, do this the old fashioned way by clicking in your mousewheel, that’s very clunky and you will usually find yourself scrolling instead of clicking. Dedicated extra buttons like the one on this RCT example just make life so much easier and there’s another thumb button to use as you like.

On top of this new-found productivity this mouse also features a braided cable and an optical sensor that can go up to 3200 DPI. Both of these features are sometimes absent on even high end devices so to get all of this for R70 excluding VAT is a huge win.

For more wired connectivity check out the USB Type-C 6 in 1 hub which we featured in our header image above.

This sleep silver hub uses the latest Type-C connector to break out into three USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one HDMI port, one RJ45 ethernet port and one Type-C power passthrough port.

Those who work mostly on the go know too well the lack of ports available, especially on modern notebooks. This solution gives you one simple dongle

Again RCT is really pushing what you can get for your Rands as this hub only costs R310 excluding VAT. Despite Type-C being the dominant connector these days, USB hubs which use it and allow for power passthrough are still very much sold at a premium, so consider this if you’re tired of being overcharged by other brands.

Finally let’s ditch cables entirely with this wireless combo that packs a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse into one package that RCT is only charging you R180, exclusive of VAT.

As you can see this wireless mouse borrows much of its design and functionality from the wired mouse we praised earlier, but this time without the need for a physical cable. The keyboard gives you a full size typing experience which is great for those who still need the direction cluster and the numpad. Those who live in Excel mourn the current trend of shrinking keyboards but you get everything here.

Simply plug the wireless pair in with a USB Nano Receiver and enjoy a rock solid wireless experience over 2.4Ghz. If you’re planning to cut more cords in 2024 this is a great place to start, especially for those doing a lot of moving around who hate having to plug everything in again when you arrive at the next destination.
