Fish South African rivers in this open-world angling game

  • Call of the Wild: The Angler has released a South African Reserve DLC for its fishing game.
  • It includes a new map, unique points of interest, and bespoke activities with a local flavour.
  • You can also find and catch 13 new fish species in this cross-platform fishing game.

We always enjoy games that have a little local flavour, and fishing title Call of the Wild: The Angler has precisely that thanks to a new South African Reserve DLC that recently released for the game.

This open-world cross-platform game has added a new map designed to mirror the local fishing experience, along with integrating new fish species, unique points of interest, bespoke activities and missions, as well as an all-new Fishing Hub section to the game.

“South Africa’s beautiful waterways are home to 16 unique species, including 13 all-new discoveries like the African Sharptooth Catfish, African Mottled Eel, and Spotted Bass. Go catch these new species, adjust your technique based on their habits and characteristics, and feel the thrill of the fight as your skills are put to the test,” reads a blog post for the newly released DLC.

“Available now for $9.99 on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store, as well as PlayStation and Xbox, the South Africa Reserve invites players to bond with friends as they find and catch 13 new fish species, earn rewards by completing missions at the newly introduced Fishing Hubs, or explore the many unique landmarks and points of interest inspired by the region’s heritage and culture,” developers Avalanche Studios shared in a release with Hypertext.

It is also worth pointing out that the base game is currently free to download on the Epic Games Store if you want to see what Call of the Wild: The Angler is all about before purchasing the South African Reserve DLC for ~R189.

You’ll need to act quickly though, as the free access elapses on 28th March.

See what the South African Reserve has to offer in the trailer after the break. If you don’t plan to travel to do some fishing this Easter weekend, we may have stumbled across a worthwhile digital alternative.
