Galaxy Buds are getting these AI features after latest update

  • Live translation is coming to the Galaxy Buds via the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones.
  • This feature lets you hear translated voices directly into your buds, so you don’t have to pass your device back and forth.
  • Several other features are coming to Galaxy Buds as part of the latest update.

On the heels of the recently launched Galaxy AI which brings some generative AI features to Samsung devices, a fresh update brings brand new AI capabilities to the Galaxy Buds. Among features brought into the fold by Galaxy AI are Circle to Search, Chat Assist, Transcript Assist, Note Assist, and Live Translate.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy Buds are unable to use many of the text assist features for obvious reasons, instead with Galaxy AI the earbuds gain live spoken language translation. Importantly, your buds must be connected to the Samsung ecosystem via a device in the Galaxy S24 series for this to work.

When connected, “The Galaxy S24 series’ real-time translation feature lets you talk to anyone, anywhere” through the Galaxy Buds.

The feature is called Interpreter and provides real-time translation on the Galaxy S24 series.

“When paired with the Galaxy Buds, they further optimize the feature by separating sound during conversation. You can listen to translations through your earbuds, while the other person hears through your phone speakers, helping you to focus better on the conversation and eliminating the need to pass your device back and forth,” Samsung Mobile SA explains in an announcement.

You can also swap the order of speech during the conversation by tapping on the buds, without having to adjust the order with your phone manually. Basically, you can translate by passing your phone to another person, having them speak into your phone and you will hear the translated version in your buds.

Then you can use your bud microphones to speak back, which will be translated into the handset for the other person. When we tested the Galaxy S24, this feature was a little spotty, but perhaps this update will make it a bit more usable.

Also coming with the update are new features to better integrate the Galaxy Buds into the ecosystem. The first is Auracast.

A feature first introduced for Samsung smart TVs, Auracast lets you cast the audio from a smart TV to multiple Galaxy Buds. Now, with the latest update the feature is now available for phones and tablets, including the Galaxy S24 series. Now you will be able to cast audio to multiple buds around the house from your phone.

As Auracast comes from TVs to phones, now 360 Audio jumps from phones to TVs. This feature places users in the centre of the action, and 360 Audio delivers surround sound from all directions. If you watch Samsung smart TVs with connected buds, you will be able to enjoy a more theater-like experience at home. The buds will also be able track your head movements for more immersion.

These new features will be made progressively available for the Galaxy Buds lineup, starting with the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Buds2, and Buds FE in early March.
