Lenovo Legion Go now available in South Africa

  • The Lenovo Legion Go launched in October overseas with no word on South African availability at the time.
  • We have spotted the handheld gaming machine now being sold locally via Takealot.
  • South African gamers can purchase the device right now for the special price of R16 459.

Launched internationally in October 2023, the latest handheld gaming device from Lenovo, the Legion Go is now available in South Africa. While we had been awaiting confirmation from local Lenovo representatives, it seems the brand simply went ahead and now the 512GB version of the machine is available via Takealot.

We spotted an advert from Lenovo Africa revealing the Legion Go had been launched locally. We managed to get hands-on with the Go at rAge 2023 and have been anticipating local availability for some time.

The Lenovo Legion Go is currently on special, seeing its price decrease from R16 999 to R16 459. The device is also being sold locally by Incredible, but without the special price. The 1TB version of the Legion Go is unfortunately not available in South Africa yet.

The local pricing is more expensive than what was expected in terms of conversions from international RRPs. In the US it retails for $699.99 or ~R13 200 (without tax). The Takealot version comes with the Legion Go and a charger. Lenovo Africa says that a three-month Game Pass subscription is included with the purchase.

In the same vein as the Steam Deck and the ASUS ROG Ally, the Legion Go is a handheld gaming device – practically a PC that you can take on the go. The initial difference is that the Legion Go has removable controllers like the Nintendo Switch. These are called “True Strike” and can be used to play the Go as it is propped on a table, for example.

The right controller has a cradle that turns into an upright mouse so you can peruse Windows 11 properly on the machine. This mouse pointer can also be used for a First Person Shooter mode.

In terms of full specs, the Lenovo Legion Go has:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor (3.30 GHz up to 5.10 GHz),
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home 64,
  • Graphic Card: Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics,
  • Memory: 16 GB LPDDR5X-7500MHz (Soldered),
  • Storage: 512 GB or 1TB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC,
  • Display: 8.8″ QHD (2560 x 1600), IPS, Touchscreen, 97 percent DCI-P3, 500 nits, 144Hz,
  • Battery: 49.2Wh,
  • WLAN: Wi-Fi 6E 2×2 AX & Bluetooth 5.1 or above,
  • Weight: Starting at .65kg.

We are looking to review the device and will have more information soon.
