Marvel, Pokémon stars head to Cape Town for Comic Con

  • International stars like the MCU’s Sean Gunn, Pokémon’s Veronica Taylor, and Lucifer’s Lesley-Ann Brandt will be headlining Comic Con Cape Town this year.
  • The event will also see the stars of the live-action Netflix adaptation of One Piece, famously filmed in South Africa.
  • The Saturday edition of the event has already been sold out, and tickets are going for R190 a pop.

This month will see the Cape Town edition of Comic Con in Africa, and today the event organisers have revealed the lineup of international stars heading to the event starting on 27th April to 1st May 2024.

Three particular guests are headlining this year’s event, all of whom have made an impact in the world of television, films, animation. However, the organisers have also revealed other guests converging in Cape Town for the event this year.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sean Gunn is making the long trip from the US to rub shoulders with South African pop culture fans at Comic Con Cape Town. He is most known for playing Kraglin in the Guardians of the Galaxy film series.

Gunn is attending the Saturday, Sunday and Monday editions of the event (27th, 28th, and 29th April). He will be joined by the legendary English voice of Ash Ketchum of Pokémon, Veronica Taylor, as well as other famous voice roles over the years. She will be in attendance for all five days of the event.

Finally rounding up the headliners is Lesley-Ann Brandt, known for her portrayal of Mazikeen on the hit television series Lucifer. Brandt is also set to appear in the upcoming Walking Dead 6-episode spin off which was released this year. She will be attending two days of the con, 27th and 28th April.

“We are thrilled to welcome Veronica Taylor, Lesley-Ann Brandt, and Sean Gunn to Comic Con Cape Town,” said marketing manager, Calvin van den Berg.

“We have also listened to the community and are excited to also be highlighting local talent too.”

Hot on the heels of the success and critical acclaim of the live-action adaptation of One Piece from Netflix, filmed in South Africa, Comic Con Cape Town will host 10 cast members from the show, including South Africans Aidan Scott (Helmeppo), Langley Kirkwood (Axe-Hand Morgan), Alexander Maniatis (Captain Kuro), and more.

They will be available on the Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday of the event, but the organisers want fans to known that different stars will be at the event at different times. Be sure to look on Howler to book autograph and photo op sessions to avoid disappointment.

Other expected excitements from the event include a diverse array of exhibitors, showcases, and interactive experiences spanning comics, gaming, cosplay, and more. You can check out everything being offered at the event on the official Comic Con website.

Tickets are on sale now for R190 a piece. They’re selling out fast, with Saturday already sold out. You can check for tickets here.
