Come the 1st to 3rd May 2025, the voice actor for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s Tanjiro Kamado will be coming to Comic Con Cape Town. His name is Zach Aguilar and you may have heard his voice before.

One of anime’s rising English dub stars, Aguilar has taken up the role of Aether in Genshin Impact, and Byleth in Fire Emblem: Three Houses/Super Smash Bros, and has a steep portfolio including Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Nier Replicant, Persona 5 Strikers, One Punch Man, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, Fate/Apocrypha and more.

His best-known work is as the English voice for Tanjiro, the main character of the exceedingly popular Demon Slayer. The character is a popular choice for South African cosplayers attending events like Comic Con Africa, Cape Town and rAge where his iconic checkered teal kimono pops up almost everywhere.

Aguilar will be heading to Comic Con Cape Town as a special guest, and attendees will be able to “hear about his experiences in the industry, and celebrate the iconic characters he brings to life,” Comic Con tells Hypertext in an announcement.

It adds that Aguilar started his career at 14 years old, and quickly rose to prominence as one of the youngest working voice actors in the industry.

“Comic Con Cape Town has cemented itself as the go-to place to celebrate the best of comic books, gaming, anime, film, TV, and cosplay. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a casual enthusiast, the convention offers an electrifying atmosphere where fandoms unite, and imaginations run wild,” the con explains.

“This year’s edition will bring an impressive lineup of celebrity guests, comic book artists, gaming tournaments, exclusive merchandise, and thrilling interactive experiences. From exhilarating cosplay competitions to in-depth panel discussions with industry icons, Comic Con Cape Town ensures an unparalleled celebration of creativity and storytelling.”

It is the first of the Comic Cons in South Africa, with Comic Con Africa in Johannesburg taking place at the end of the year usually.

We’re always amazed by how many people attend Comic Con Africa. How many people come with their cosplays, K-pop, elf ears and friends just to gorge upon popular culture and geekdom. We’re hoping for more interesting guests announcements for the remainder of the year.

Just not Anthony Mackie.
