Earlier today a man was shot as armed robbers fled the scene of what appears to be a botched robbery at the iStore in Cresta shopping centre in Randburg.

According to the report by EWN, the gang of men had had tried to rob the iStore but had fled for an unknown reason leaving behind a bag of merchandise as they escaped.

Paramedics confirmed that one person was injured in a shootout in the parking lot outside the mall and has been taken to hospital. ER24’s Werner Vermaak says, “He was found with his injuries in a stable condition. Paramedics treated him on the scene before transporting him to a Johannesburg hospital for further treatment.”

According to Core, which operates the iStore chain, none of the customers were injured in the robbery.

Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng gave more details on the incident, after the suspects left the store. “The men then started shooting randomly in the parking lot of the mall, where the elderly man was injured.”
