Destiny 2’s Solstice of Heroes 2021: Everything you need to know

Following the Endless Night that has served as the McGuffin for Season of the Splicer, Destiny 2 players will have the chance to let off some steam during the annual Solstice of Heroes event.

For those who have never participated in the event, it’s meant to celebrate the achievements of Guardians, but for players it’s a way to earn some new armour that glows.

While that sounds simple, the path to this armour is a grind so let’s break down what Solstice of Heroes involves and what you can earn.

Aerials in the sky

The main loop of Solstice of Heroes involves a bespoke area known as the European Aerial Zone or EAZ.

Players can be matchmade or enter the zone with a pre-made Fireteam, but there is a time limit so efficiency is key.

The goal of the mission is to kill as many bosses as you can within the time limit. At the end of the mission a chest will spawn for each boss killed and you can use Solstice Key Fragments to unlock those chests. Solstice Key Fragments are earned from bounties and from opening chests in the EAZ.

Another part of Solstice of Heroes is Elemental Empowerment. Each day a different Element will feature and killing enemies with a matching elemental damage type will drop orbs. Collecting these orbs will empower you and grant your character temporary bonuses.

A new type of Elemental Empowerment will also feature, Prism. During Prism elemental days all elemental kills will generate empowerment orbs but as only one sub-class can be equipped at a time you will have to chose your bonus carefully.

There is a new weapon to chase, the Compass Rose Shotgun and it will drop from chests in the EAZ.

Glow-in-the-light

On to the main drawcard for Solstice of Heroes – glowing armour.

Players are required to upgrade armour through three tiers. These upgrades are done through completing objectives during the event. The first two tiers must be completed before the event is over, but you can complete the final tier after it completes on 3rd August.

This year Bungie also introduces Armour Accelerants.

“As players complete their Solstice armor objectives, they will gain access to new Armor Accelerants from Eva. Armor Accelerants will increase the progress made towards future Solstice armor objectives for the duration of the event, allowing sets to be completed faster for subsequent characters of different classes. Currently active Armor Accelerants can be viewed in Eva’s vendor screen,” explains Bungie.

The accelerants available are listed below:

  • Rare Armour Accelerator I
  • Rare Armour Accelerator II
  • Legendary Armour Accelerator I
  • Legendary Armour Accelerator II

In order to start your quest for glowing armour you will need to complete one run of the EAZ and then visit the Statue of Heroes in the Tower to receive your renewed armour set.

As for the glows, the armour will glow white by default but you can purchase glows that match your equipped sub-class, as seen below, from Eververse.

Other rewards include a shiny new Ghost Shell and an emblem.

As mentioned the event starts on 6th July and players will need to download a sizeable patch that also includes a balance update and the introduction of Master difficulty for the Vault of Glass Raid.

You can read more about that update here.
