Sea of Thieves chalks up another week as Steam top seller

The unofficial tracker of everything on Valve’s storefront – Steam Database (SteamDB) has released another list of the top selling games from the past week.

This is the 26th week of 2021, ending on 4th July. As we covered last week, Sea of Thieves once again claims top spot.

In fact the entire top 10 looks rather familiar. The only real difference between these two weeks, aside from some games shuffling their places around, is the appearance of Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar’s open world cowboy title didn’t make the cut last week.

The full top 10 list is available below and, as added by us, is the percentage discount for the games as the Steam Summer Sale 2021 is still ongoing.

  1. Sea of Thieves | 33 percent off
  2. Forza Horizon 4 | 40 percent off
  3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – GOTY Edition | 50 percent off
  4. PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS | 50 percent off
  5. Forza Horizon 4 | 40 percent off
  6. Rust | 50 percent off
  7. Halo: The Master Chief Collection Package | 50 percent off
  8. It Takes Two | 25 percent off
  9. Red Dead Redemption 2 | 33 percent off
  10. Valve Index VR Kit | No discount

Red Dead Redemption 2 knocks Horizon Zero Dawn off of the list, which was in third place last week.

As always games with multiple editions can appear twice on this list as they appear as separate entities in the database. Forza Horizon 4 once again claims two spots in the top 10 as it has three different editions listed on Steam.

As for why these games managed to succeed this past week, outside of their inherent qualities, we’re still sticking to the new Pirates of the Caribbean crossover for Sea of Thieves being the driving factor for the top spot. That, combined with a decent discount means people are lining up to buy and play it.

Finally it’s worth mentioning that several of these games are available through Xbox Game Pass for no additional fees. Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 4 and Halo are all on there.

If you’re counting Forza twice this means that four out of the 10 best sellers on Steam in the last week can be played through Game Pass, which is a pretty good hit rate.
