Earlier this year, April to be precise, Bolt launched its app for riders on Huawei’s AppGallery which meant that those who use Huawei’s newer handsets without Google Mobile Services could hail a ride.

We mention hailing a ride specifically because until today the Bolt Driver app – which is the app drivers use to accept rides – wasn’t available on the Huawei AppGallery.

That changes today with the launch of the Bolt Driver app on the AppGallery.

Bolt hopes to reach more potential drivers by launching on Huawei’s app store says senior growth lead at Bolt, Mykhailo Kudla.

“We already have 2.5 million drivers working with Bolt and our aim is to add many more to our roster,” Kudla writes in a press release. “We know from our great experiences on the AppGallery platform that we can reach a huge international audience, and we want to tap into that using the Bolt Driver app as a gateway to new driver partnerships that we can nurture long into the future.”

Huawei’s AppGallery currently has 550 million monthly active users which is rather impressive.

“We are delighted that the company has been able to use our platform to introduce not just one app, but a series of hugely popular apps. Bolt Driver is a great example of how technology is enabling people to earn additional income and work flexibly to suit their lifestyles. It is exactly the kind of tool we want our partners to be listing on AppGallery,” says president of Huawei’s consumer business group in Norway and Canada, Derek Yu.

As we mentioned at the top of this story Huawei’s newer devices do not have access to Google Mobile Services. While the company still makes smartphones it does look like it’s focusing its efforts on China more than the rest of the world.

Whether that changes in the future is unknown but for now at least Bolt drivers using a Huawei handset can join the Bolt ecosystem.
