Hisense ULED – the gaming upgrade you can make today

If you’re in the market to upgrade your gaming setup you’re in for a bit of a shock. In the world of consoles both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are in constant low supply meaning no stock to buy in the stores, and ridiculously higher prices (not to mention a lack of warranty) on the second hand market.

Things aren’t much better in the world of PC because GPUs are experiencing record shortages leading to the same problems of low supply, high prices and a lot of frustration.

Thankfully, much under the radar to many, is the fact that the display market has quietly been soldiering on by offering better value buys for us in South Africa and a better experience all around. If you have anything to play games on right now, it may be better to look at upgrading your display instead.

A perfect example of this is Hisense’s ULED TVs which offer all the features you could want, without breaking the bank. And, it really needs to be said nowadays, ample stock for everyone to buy.

But let’s start with that acronym. We all know of the LED, so what’s ULED? Ultra LED is a family of more than 20 technologies all working together to create the ultimate picture quality with the best range of colour (including the darkest blacks), the best motion smoothing and the best experience at the now standard 4K resolution.

Locally you can find six TVs sporting the ULED technologies, all offering a wide range of sizes, features and styles, but all offering the same great experience you can now expect from this new display form. Below find the names of each together with their sizes, resolution and even refresh rate.

TVs offering refresh rates higher than 60Hz has been a very welcome change over the last few years in the world of tech. Again variety in products is very much welcome as you can balance the resolution and refresh rate to suit your console or PC, and then choose a size of TV from there instead of being railroaded into only what’s available.

  • LEDN55U7WF | 55 inches | 3840×2160 resolution | 60Hz
  • LEDN65U7WF | 65 inches | 3840×2160 resolution | 60Hz
  • LEDN55U7QF | 54.6 inches | 3840×2160 resolution | 60Hz
  • LEDN65U7QF | 64.5 inches | 3840×2160 resolution | 60Hz
  • LEDN55U8QF | 54.6 inches | 3840×2160 resolution | 120Hz
  • LEDN65U8QF | 64.5 inches | 3840×2160 resolution | 120Hz

But a pretty display doesn’t make a great TV, so it’s a good thing that all the products in this range have the brains to back things up.

The Hisense ULED range all feature the Vidaa smart operating system (OS) which allows you to do all manner of fun things, like access to streaming services and extra features without the need for extra hardware.

That may all sound familiar for a smart TV, but where Hisense sets itself apart is with the aptly named Game Mode. This feature improves responsiveness of the TV and reduces input lag by increasing the processing power dedicated to gaming. Not only is this a fantastic feature to have, but it’s standard in the Hisense ULED range.

If you’ve ever played games on a standard TV and found the experience wanting compared to a monitor it’s likely because that TV didn’t have something like Game Mode, and that display was more intended for movies and shows.
