South African Nintendo store kicks off a decent sale

Nintendo is known for a lot of things, with one of them being the unfortunate truth of high prices and decent discounts never really happening, so whenever a an actual sale rolls around it’s worth talking about.

The latest sale is local with the official South African Nintendo store, run by distributor Core, has kicked off and will run from today, 23rd August, to 5th September.

You can find the full sale right here, but below is a list of what we think are the best deals.

We will include the amount of Rands that the sale claims to have taken off of the price but take this with a grain of salt. Rather look at the sale price that is listed and decide from there if it fits your budget.

Hardware

Boxed games

Pokémon 8″ Plushies | R349 each | Was R449 each

Pokémon 12″ Plushies | R549 each | Was R699 each

Our review of the Hori Split Pad Pro can be read here. These come highly recommended from us as replacements for the troublesome Joy-Cons, but it should be noted that they come with several missing features when compared to the original Switch controllers.

Pokémon Sword and Shield, on the other hand, didn’t get the best review from us at launch. It’s included here simply because the price is decent and this would be the best time to jump in if you’ve been a holdout up until now.

The consoles themselves should be seen through the lens of the fact that the OLED model is due to launch soon, and the base Switch recently got a RRP reduction here in South Africa.

Finally it’s worth mentioning that our list above doesn’t include everything in the sale, only what we think are the best deals. Again the full sale can be found here.
