Interactive Destiny 2 trailer brings players up to speed on story beats

One of the biggest critiques of Destiny is that its lore and story are things that players need to actively seek out. Over the years cutscenes and exposition have been lacking from Destiny and that’s created a sort of cottage industry for lore aficionados.

The forthcoming expansion for Destiny 2, The Witch Queen can’t really count on players seeking out backstory on their own however. This is because the backdrop of the expansion is tedious and involves going way back, as in back to the beginning of Destiny lore.

With this in mind Bungie has created an interactive trailer that lays out the objectives players have in The Witch Queen as well as providing much needed background on who Savathûn is or more importantly, how she came to be.

The trailer sticks with the idea of being a psychic detective and serves as the briefing for your mission, should you choose to accept it.

The interactive nature of the trailer comes in the form of nodes that will appear throughout the 2:55 runtime. Clicking the nodes will bring up extra bits of lore to give additional context to the voice over.

The trailer can be found here.

This really is a crash course in Destiny 2’s long running lore but it does explain the origins of the Hive, the Hive Gods, the Worm Gods and more. The intricacies of Destiny’s lore particularly that of the Hive is what drew us into the game in the first place and we’re not alone in our excitement of learning more about this ancient enemy.

For players who are looking for something more substantial as regards lore, this nearly four hour video should bring you up to speed, at least until the Shadowkeep campaign. If you prefer reading, there are tomes of lore that can be easily searched through and read over on Ishtar Collective.

Throughout the course of this week Bungie has launched a slew of information regarding changes being made to Destiny 2 once the new expansion launches. Aside from the ViDoc, Light in the Darkness, there has also been a deep dive into the rework of Void subclasses and new Exotic armour was showcased in this week’s This Week at Bungie update.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available for pre-order for Xbox, PlayStation and PC now and the expansion launches on 22nd February.
