Crimson Education offering SA students overseas internships

Crimson Education, a university admissions consulting company, is offering South African students the opportunity to intern at companies overseas.

“The Crimson Careers Internship Programme is open to students aged 14 to 19 years old. Each programme runs for a month, and is designed to run as an extracurricular alongside full-time school. Learning and work experience sessions take place on the weekend, with students connecting with their teams during the week,” a press release we received reads.

As you may have guessed by that description this programme doesn’t have students physically travelling overseas.

Said release makes mention of companies such as HSBC, Weiss Asset Management, PwC and Uber. It also mentions specific careers for students that these internships would benefit from such as finance, entrepreneurship, law, investment banking and UX / UI.

Now here’s the kicker: this isn’t free. Unlike some of the internships we’ve feature in the past organised in association with the government and nonprofits, this is instead a private initiative.

“Applicants will be charged a fee by Crimson Education to set up the internships. Included in these costs are the programme running fees and the supply of business mentors from top Fortune 500 companies. In addition, students will be expected to attend learning sessions and complete the course content,” a disclaimer reads.

Those still interested should visit the official Crimson Education South Africa website here for more information.

At this point it’s worth mentioning that, while any kind of overseas work experience is tempting, many large international companies have local presences and even offices that students should consider looking into HSBC, PwC, and Uber all have offices in the country and you can click on those links to be taken to their local homepages.

This is worth keeping in mind for students (and their parents) looking for an internship which involves actually travelling to and working in an office or jobsite.

While Weiss Asset Management doesn’t seem to have any local foothold we will link to its job and internship dedicated page. At the time of publication three internship positions are available, albeit all in Massachusetts, USA.
