Guardians of the Galaxy on Game Pass: Give it a chance

Microsoft has announced the latest changes to Game Pass including new titles, leaving titles and changes to the app. It’s one of the new titles people should be focusing on with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy when it arrives on 10th March.

For some context Guardians of the Galaxy release on 26th October 2021 and was never really given a chance to shine.

This is largely due to Marvels’ Avengers, the now infamous game from 4th September 2020 that absolutely soured the market on Marvel games.

Our review can be read here for a better understanding of why Avengers fell on its face so hard, but the short story is that it was a decent third person action game bogged down by live service tripe and forced microtransactions intended to wring every cent possible from the playerbase.

While post launch support has been decent with a lot of free content including missions and playable characters, there’s been massive missteps along the way that would turn off new players and make returning ones see no reason to reinstall.

Decisions like lowering gained experience, locking Spider-Man to PlayStation, paid consumables (which have since been removed) and more bonehead choices which made an underplayed game even less enticing.

All this rightfully gained negative press impacted Guardians of the Galax but developer Eidos-Montréal and publisher Square Enix also dropped the ball promoting the game before launch leaving many unsure what to expect.

All of this is a real shame because, as we discussed in our launch review, Guardians of the Galaxy is rather fantastic and a pure joy to play from beginning to end.

Now with the purchasing barrier removed through Game Pass on PC, Xbox consoles and Xbox Cloud, more people can give the game a try and enjoy it too.

We implore everyone with an active subscription to give this game a try even if they were burnt by Avengers.
