Samsung announces new Galaxy A73, A53 and A33 with 5G support

Earlier today Samsung hosted its latest consumer focused event, with the mid-range Galaxy A series being in the spotlight. As expected, the South Korean firm has refreshed its offerings for 2022, with a new Samsung Galaxy A73, A53 and A33 seeing the light of day, all of which support 5G.

While the newly minted devices look a lot like their predecessors given the pastel hues in terms of colour options, these latest offerings feature new silicon, improved battery life and enhanced cameras.

These three elements are in keeping with the messaging for the Samsung Galaxy S series, which is screen, camera and battery life, as the irritatingly catchy song for the devices likes to repeat.

In terms of the silicon, a new 5nm process is present, although Samsung is mum on what foundry produced it. As such it is unclear at the time of writing whether this is Exynos or Snapdragon in nature. Regardless it appears to deliver an octa-core setup with each quad-core serving up clock speeds of 2.4GHz and 2.0GHz respectively.

It also looks like the same memory and storage options will be available across the different Samsung Galaxy A models, with a choice between 6GB or 8GB RAM, as well as up to 256GB internal storage and up to 1TB extra via microSD card.

The same goes for battery capacity, which is 5 000mAh across the board, which Samsung claims can offer up to two days of use.

The key difference between the three new models, however, come in terms of the display size and camera setup. The Galaxy A33 5G and A53 5G feature a 6.4″ and 6.5″ FullHD+ screen respectively, with the former offering up to 90Hz refresh rates and the latter up to 120Hz. The Galaxy A73 5G has a 6.7″ FullHD+ display with 120Hz support.

As for the cameras, all three models have a quartet of lenses on the rear, with the A73 5G naturally possessing the best specced array on paper. Here a massive 108MP primary lens, 12MP ultra-wide, 5MP depth sensing and 5MP macro lenses are present.

For now local pricing is yet to be shared, but the Galaxy A53 5G will be available in selected markets come 1st April, with the A33 5G and A73 5G will be ready come 22nd April.

As such, we should hear from Samsung Mobile South Africa on local pricing and availability in the coming days.
