Stranger Things has had a surprisingly large presence in videogames over the years between its own dedicated titles and crossovers with the likes of Fortnite, Rocket League and Dead by Daylight. Now it’s crossing over yet again, this time with Far Cry 6.
This crossover is called The Vanishing and will kick off tomorrow, 24th March, as free content for all owners of Far Cry 6.
“The Vanishing will bring a stealth-horror-survival gameplay experience to Far Cry players for the first time with mysterious characters and new lore. In The Vanishing, players will enter a twisted version of Yara inspired by the Upside-Down, where Dani discovers that Yarans are disappearing and no one is safe – not even Chorizo,” the announcement reads.
“Players will be able to explore Stranger Things-inspired locations, such as a hidden bunker and an abandoned laboratory. Dani’s mission – with new skins for a flamethrower and shotgun – is to search for Chorizo and find out what happened to the abducted Yarans.”
This crossover is also meant to get more people into the game for a free weekend and subsequent sales to try push purchases of Far Cry 6.
The free weekend also begins on 24th March and will last until 27th March on all platforms.
Those who enjoy the game and want to own it can buy it for 50 percent off on sale, also on all platforms. The exact price differs between storefronts and where you live depending on localised pricing, so visit the appropriate store you want to buy the game on to see how much it’s going for.
The paid DLC and season pass will also be discounted during this time with the former receiving various discounts and the latter 35 percent off.
When Far Cry 6 released last year it didn’t cause much of a wave with most reviews agreeing that it’s another repeat of the formula Ubisoft has been recycling ever since Far Cry 3 came out almost a decade ago. We are, however, happy to see initiatives like the Stranger Things crossover and free weekends happening to try and get us excited about this game.
