Rainbow Six Siege is being turned into a mobile game confusingly called Rainbow Six Mobile, according to Ubisoft.
Surely it should have been called Siege Mobile?
Anyway the base Siege on other platforms isn’t the game we would have pegged to be turned into a mobile app because of how fast and precise the gameplay is, on top of being an FPS, a genre that has been brute forced into the mobile space, but never really works as well as you’d like.
“At its heart, Rainbow Six Mobile is a competitive and tactical FPS game with two teams of 5 – Attackers and Defenders. While the core gameplay, characters, and maps may share similarities with Siege, we’ve rebuilt everything from the ground up with mobile usability in mind. We have put a lot of work under the hood to adapt the Siege experience for mobile devices. This includes an entirely new gameplay control system developed specifically for mobile and extensive optimization of the UI and in-game visual presentation,” reads a statement from the developers.
Those developers are based in Montreal and, according to the announcement, are in the same physical space as the main developer of Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft Montreal.
The developers go on to add that Rainbow Six Mobile isn’t meant to be a replacement for regular Siege and they even acknowledge that you simply won’t get the precision of mouse and keyboard on mobile. Instead this new app is meant to give players a Siege-like experience that is shorter and more accessible.

Rainbow Six Mobile has apparently been in development for three years now though no date for a public release has been set. Those interested can, however, register to play the game early on Android and iOS. To do so head to the official website for the game, click the blue “register” button in the top right corner and follow the instructions.
Those chosen from registrations will get to play in closed, live tests in the coming weeks.
