COVID-19 in South Africa: 6th June 2022

With June now in full swing the prospect of a new week brings with it uncertainty regarding the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa, as well as any unexpected bouts of loadshedding.

For now, the numbers of both fronts look to be stable, with loadshedding being avoided for the past few days. As for the virus, the past few days has also seen a drop in newly recorded cases compared to previous weeks.

To that end the latest report from National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 1 127 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of infections recorded to date to 3 968 205.

The department also notes that four fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 101 317. Other key figures in the latest report confirm that the recovery rate is currently 96.7 percent, while more than 25.36 million tests have been conducted so far.

As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has only seen 1 677 jabs administered owing to it being a Sunday. As of 17:00 on 5th June 2022, a total of 36 240 713 vaccines have been administered across SA.
