Over the past 24 hours, the latest daily figures related to COVID-19 in South Africa have picked up slightly. We are not seeing anything close to surge numbers, but it looks like the colder weather and slow vaccination rate means we are still fighting the spread of the virus.
To that end, the new report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 2 062 cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, which is up compared to the previous. This may simply be the result of the numbers rising as the week progresses, as we have seen over the past two years.
The result sees the total number of infections recorded to date now climb to 3 970 993.
The department also notes that 47 fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, which is also slightly up from the previous day’s figure. The death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa is now sitting at 101 397.
Other key figures in the report sees the recovery rate increase slightly to 96.8 percent, while more than 25.40 million tests have been conducted so far.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 36 847 jabs administered, with 14 013 of these being booster shots. As of 17:00 on 7th June 2022, a total of 36 319 056 vaccines have been administered across SA.
