Kojima Productions says PlayStation is still a partner after mystery Xbox Studios title

If you are a fan of Hideo Kojima games you were likely rocked by the news that Kojima Productions is working with Xbox Studios to publish a mystery horror game.

To ensure PlayStation fans are not sent into a state of delirium, the game studio confirmed that the Sony-owned division is still very much a partner, also noting that that it has two titles in development currently, with one being published by Xbox Studios and the other with long time collaborator PlayStation.

“Please be assured that we continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation as well,” it clarified in a tweet, embedded below.

This is in keeping with reports in December of last year that Kojima Productions had two projects in development, with one said to be “big” and the other described as a “new challenge”.

Reading between the lines, we assume that the Xbox Studios game is the new challenge, although a horror game is not brave new territory for Kojima Productions. That said, perhaps it has something unique on the cards.

Either way, fans of Kojima games can rest a little easier now that the studio has cleared up matters. That said, given the long history it has with PlayStation, announcing that an upcoming game will be published with an existing partner’s competitor does signal a change in strategy for the company.

As such, it will be interesting to see whether this is simply a once off, or indeed the start of a more dramatic shift in how the studio will look to do things moving forward.

For now at least, we’re hoping both projects are successful, with more recent attempts from Kojima, like Death Stranding, suffering from over hyping and failing to deliver as expected.
