Over the past few days the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has started a countdown to the opening of the online admissions for students who will attend grade one or grade eight in 2023.
Every day the GDE is releasing a simple graphic that is counting down the days to 22nd July when the online portal will open allowing for parents and other guardians to secure a place for their children in schools in the province.
You can see the most recent graphic in the header image above with the countdown currently at 16 days.
While the portal does remain open for some time, closing on 19th August, the department has continually recommended that admissions are done as soon as possible as spaces in schools fill up quickly.
Because of this there have been several projects to make sure that the process is as quick and smooth as possible, which we have been following closely over the last few months.
It’s not unusual for the education-focused arms of the South African government to run these kinds of countdowns as a way to constantly remind the public about important dates and events.
Back in 2021 we saw the Department of Basic Education (DBE) do the same for the release of the Matric results.
