MultiVersus improves its concurrent number after big first day

Yesterday MultiVersus wrapped up its first day in the much-anticipated open beta with an impressive concurrent player count, and today it has managed to improve on that performance.

The first day of open beta saw a peak concurrent player count of 144 456 which reflected the large number of players who have been wanting to try the game out as it has gone through several stages of closed testing. Eyes were on the game to see if it could improve on this, and it has, with a new peak player number of 153 433.

These numbers come to us from Valve itself thanks to the official Game and Player Statistics page which provides current player numbers as well as the aforementioned peak count.

Valve orders these games by current players which puts MultiVersus in 13th place on the entirety of Steam. This is a bit unfair as we’re pulling these numbers in the late afternoon here in South Africa, and this position will likely change as the Americans wake up.

Looking purely at the peak player count MultiVersus is, by our estimate, closer to seventh place just behind Grand Theft Auto V with 180 367.

MultiVersus’ success so far is impressive considering that the numbers we’ve discussed so far is purely from PC players on Steam. The game is also free to play on PlayStation and Xbox consoles (both current and previous gen) so the real number of people playing the game is likely much higher.

The real test will come in these coming weeks and months to see if Warner Bros.’s attempt at a Super Smash Bros. game can be successful.
