Steam Deck & Steam Client get a bevy of updates

It’s a big day at Valve as it rolls an update for the Steam Client as well as two updates for the Steam Deck.

The Steam Client update is listed as a small update but seems rather substantial going buy the patch notes.

It adds support for several input devices including the Nintendo Online classic controllers, HORI Fighting Stick mini 4 and the Qanba Obsidian and Dragon Arcade Joysticks.

There’s also a firmware update and improved rumble for DualSense Wireless Controllers.

One change we’re interested in addresses micro-stutter which we have encountered in some situations in a small handful of games. We’re not sure if this fix will change that, especially as it’s listed as appearing in very few circumstances, but it is good to see it addressed.

“Fixed a case where Steamworks API calls could be briefly blocked by Steam client log file operations leading to micro-stutter in some games under very specific situations,” reads part of the notes.

Windows, macOS and Linux all receive updates here and the new Steam Client should apply these automatically after a download.

As for the Steam Deck both of its updates are both are for the Beta / Preview Channel so those using the mainline branch of the handheld PC won’t need to worry about these until they are developed and implemented later.

For those in this environment some big changes involve fixes for Xbox logins for Microsoft Flight Simulator and Halo Infinite, so if you’ve been struggling to get into those games this will hopefully fix that issue.

Another fix is also here for those who want to run Firefox.

“Updated Firefox to be installed as a Flatpak, rather than from the OS repositories, to ensure timely updates. First-time launches of Firefox from the desktop will now prompt for installation via the Discover Software Center, which will handle updates as they are published,” the announcement reads.

The overlay and notification system has been tweaked with game guides now available in the overlay and achievement progress notifications no longer playing sounds.

Patch notes for these two Steam Deck updates can be found here and here.
