Crossplay trials in F1 22 start today

F1 22 launched on 1st July 2022 and players have been waiting patiently since then for crossplay, and they will finally get a taste of it as trials begin today.

Full crossplay in F1 22 is supposedly coming at the end of August, but two trial periods for it will take place before then:

  • “Session 1: Friday 5th August at 11am UTC – Sunday 7th August at 11pm UTC
  • Session 2: Friday 12th August at 11am UTC – Sunday 14th August at 11pm UTC.”

To partake in the trials several caveats have to be kept in mind, starting with turning crossplay on which is under Game Options -> Settings

“The Friends Hub is where you can review any pending friend requests or session invites. You can also search for and add friends as well as those you’ve recently raced against. Friends Hub can be accessed from the Main Menu by clicking the left thumbstick (or F10 on a keyboard) and then selecting the Friends Option,” the announcement reads.

“As a session host, in order to invite someone to your lobby from another platform, head to the Invite Friends option in the lobby and invite them from there. They’ll receive an invite through the Friends Hub.”

Said announcement also stresses that a crash can occur during the first time a player tries crossplay in the Invites & Requests or Player Search screens. Should this happen the game needs to be relaunched. Should this type of crash happen, or players have any other issues to report, they are encouraged to do so on publisher EA’s website here.

In a recent update to the game which tweaked car handling to be more realistic, many players were instead asking for fixes to the opponent AI and / or the implementation of crossplay, so it’s good to see at least one of those requests has been answered today.

F1 22 is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
