Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is launching soon on 12th August and pre-orders for it have made it one of the best selling games on Steam recently, but certain countries have been given the wrong price.
In an update it has been announced that several countries had the game price incorrectly listed, and, while it does list which countries were affected, it does not provide the changed prices.
We have found that information from Steam Database (SteamDB), an unofficial tracking site for everything on Valve’s platform:
- Australia: A$109.95 – A$94.95
- Israel: ₪279 – ₪239
- New Zealand: NZ$124.95 – NZ$104.95
- Norway: kr769 – kr599
- Poland: zł299 – zł259
- Switzerland: CHF73.90 – CHF62.90
- UK: £54.99 – £49.99
“We have now fixed this issue. Other markets have not been affected. If you pre-purchased the title AND are from any of the above markets, you will want to follow the steps below to ensure you receive the correct lower price,” the announcement reads.
The steps to correct the problem simply involve canceling the pre-order to receive a refund of the old, incorrect price, and then purchasing the game again.
While this is good news it should be noted that this is not really a change to regional pricing, just a correction of the game being priced too high in certain territories.
If you convert most of the new above prices to the US Dollar they all come to around $60, which is the official price of the game. Steam regional pricing is supposed to reflect the economic situation in each country and adjust the price – usually lower – as most countries don’t have the same strong economy as America.
This has been pointed out by comments on places like the Steam Community and Reddit where many countries with poorer economies are still paying more than America, with Asian countries mentioned several times as being particularly affected.
Thankfully, despite these problems, some countries do have favourable pricing on Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered with South Africa being one of them.
There isn’t much time for this pricing debacle to be fixed before 12th August so all we can do is wait and see what happens.
