You’ll need to jump through hoops to use Discord Voice on Xbox

Despite Sony investing in Discord last year, features for the voice communication app keep coming to Xbox first. Case in point, Discord introduced Voice Chat to Xbox Insiders back in July while PlayStation users keep waiting.

Now, Discord has opened up Voice Chat to all Xbox Series S|X and Xbox One users. With that having been said, you are going to need to jump through a few hoops to connect to Voice Chat.

First off, you’re going to need the Xbox mobile app for iOS or Android. You will also need the Discord app for your desktop, notebook or smartphone.

When you have both of those apps you will need to link your Xbox to your Xbox mobile app.

To join a Voice Chat on your Xbox first join the channel using your smartphone or desktop/notebook. You should see a new option to Join on Xbox. At this point the Xbox mobile app should open automatically and allow you to connect your Xbox to the Discord channel. Follow the prompts and you should be connected to Discord via your Xbox.

This not an ideal situation but at least Xbox gamers can now make use of Discord. At least they will once Discord has ironed out some issues.

Over on its support page, Discord notes that there is a problem where some users can’t transfer their voice comms to their Xbox. While the issue is being investigated, there is no ETA on when this will be resolved.

Meanwhile, PlayStation gamers can simply showcase which games they are playing which is something, we guess. With promises that Discord will arrive on PlayStation this year, hopefully PlayStation’s integration requires less hoop jumping than it does on Xbox.
