Leaks force Ubisoft to reveal the next Assassin’s Creed title

Leaks about upcoming product releases always feel a bit like a marketing excercise than a real leak of information. However, this week’s leaks regarding a new Assassin’s Creed title drew the ire of Ubisoft.

To be fair, Ubisoft pulled an AMD and leaked the news on its own store according to a report by Forbes. Despite causing this, Ubisoft then turned to DMCA strikes to take down the content as it appeared. However, this is the internet and once something is online, it’s there forever.

So, it seems Ubisoft decided that trying to keep it’s next Assassin’s Creed title under wraps until the middle of the month was too tough and it announced the game.

The image accompanying the tweet showcases Basim who was introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Mirage however will – as you can see in the image – see the series’ return to the Middle East.

Not much is known about the game other than it’s said to see a return to the game’s stealth-focused roots.

We should learn more about Mirage at Ubisoft Forward on 10th September. Given that it’s been two years since a new Assassin’s Creed game was launched, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ubisoft announces that Mirage will be released this year but, given all the delays we’ve seen of late, maybe this will become yet another February 2023 release.

One thing we do hope is that Ubisoft dials back the size of the world it lets players explore. While it may be impressive, Ubisoft open-world games are often incredibly shallow with vast empty spaces and towns bustling with activity but nothing to really do.

We’ll have to wait until 10th September to find out more.
