Loadshedding to be a fixture this entire week

Towards the back end of last week the country braced itself for another bout of loadshedding and for the week ahead, it looks like it will continue, based on a Power Alert tweeted by Eskom on Sunday.

Said tweet explained that Stage 3 loadshedding would be implemented from 5:00 on Monday morning (12th September) and be reduced to Stage 2 from 5:00 on Tuesday morning (13th September). From Tuesday onwards, Stage 2 is expected to be in effect until Friday (16th September).

The reason for the continued loadshedding should be nothing new for South Africans, as continued breakdowns and an inability to return generating capacity have hampered any efforts by Eskom to get operations back to normal.

The power utility says 15 760MW is unavailable due to the aforementioned breakdowns.

Eskom also noted that it would be holding a media briefing on Monday to explain the current situation. Whether CEO Andre de Ruyter will be chairing said briefing is unclear at the time of writing, but it will be interesting to hear what excuses the utility will lean on to account for loadshedding once again.

As we always note, to stay up to date with the loadshedding schedule in your area, as well as receive notifications related to the power status of the country, download the EskomSePush app.
