LEGO coming to SA: Star Wars, Marvel, Indiana Jones & more

  • Several LEGO sets now have localised release windows and pricing.
  • Most of the sets are for April, but some stretch into May and even August.
  • This wave of sets heralds the return of Indiana Jones.

As March finally ends and we leave the first quarter of 2023, even more LEGO sets have been revealed for the local market so you know how much money to put aside, and how long to save before the release.

The pricing for sets in the April wave of releases has now been revealed for the South African market by way of Great Yellow Brick. For those unaware, Great Yellow Brick is the online store for the physical LEGO Certified Stores which recently opened its fifth store in the country.

We use this store as the benchmark for releases since its pricing is the standard for LEGO in South Africa. Many exclusive sets are also only available here, or available here for a short time, again making it the best place to look for new sets.

That being said, check out our definitive guide for shopping for LEGO in South Africa for more.

So what is on offer for April and beyond? The big name here is Indiana Jones, who will finally return to LEGO next month. Indiana Jones LEGO was last seen in 2009, making this a long-awaited reunion.

The other big launch is that of the classic Land Rover Defender, something we already covered in detail.

Also worth its own mention is several sets for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. None of these sets has us too excited but the new ship for the superhero team is very unique. First seen in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the blue and purple ship is named after David Bowie. The unique ringed design of the ship isn’t perfectly captured in LEGO form, but then the set would need to be several times larger to properly match this specific, alien look.

Outside of some new launches for Disney and Minecraft there are a pair of Star Wars sets, based on The Mandalorian season three. These are an oddity in the release schedule as they are planned for May and August and, of all the sets on this list, they are the only two available for pre-order. If we had to guess why, it’s because small Star Wars sets are usually very popular and sell out fast.

75344: Boba Fett’s Starship Microfighter and 75345: 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack, for example, launched on 1st January, promptly sold out, and have been out of stock ever since. Hopefully by opening pre-orders a few months ahead of time for the new sets, we can avoid this situation from happening again.
