With Xiaomi you can leave blurry footage in the past

When it comes to security cameras, basic footage will no longer do. While it may have been fine in the past to have whatever worked, grainy footage with no defining detail just will not help in many circumstances. Fine details like text and facial features can make the difference between priceless footage, and worthless footage.

It is for this reason that Xiaomi is pushing the envelope when it comes to its smart camera range of products, which can offer you footage that is of much higher quality than you may be expecting.

Before we jump into these cameras, it’s worth having a quick crash course on resolution. This key feature of video is usually expressed by two numbers, with the most common you have probably seen in the past being 1920 X 1080.

These numbers represent the raw pixel count of the horizontal space (1920 in this case) multiplied by the vertical space (1080 here). This “1080p” standard for HD video that has become the gold standard is represented by this 1920 X 1080 resolution and, yes, it also works as a multiplication. This is to say that 1920 X 1080 means that a regular 1080p image has 2 073 600 total pixels.

While more than two million pixels may seem like a lot, the truth is that it isn’t. It’s the reason why many TVs and other appliances have ditched 1080p as the standard for their resolutions. 1080p no longer offers the clarity and quality that consumers need, and you can see this yourself with larger 1080p screens that offer a poor picture even at medium distance.

To combat this consider the Xiaomi Smart Camera C300 and the Xiaomi Smart Camera C400, two smart digital camera options from the company that blow 1080p out of the water.

The C300 offers recordings in 2304 X 1296, and the C400 even higher at 2560 X 1440. Xiaomi refers to these resolutions as 2K and 2.5K respectively, referring to the horizontal pixel count.

Naming aside, let’s multiply those for a comparison back to 1080p:

  • 1920 X 1080 | 1080p | 2 073 600 pixels,
  • 2304 X 1296 | 2K | 2 985 984 pixels,
  • 2560 X 1440 | 2.5K | 3 686 400 pixels.

As you can see, the 2K and 2.5K resolutions of the C300 and C400 respectively offer you substantially more, raw resolution. What many may not realise is that this added clarity also helps when you need to zoom in on details, as you can do so without worrying about pixelation or blurriness.

This higher pixel count works in tandem with other features of the Xiaomi smart cameras to create a perfectly clear recording experience for both night and day use. The large F1.4 aperture lens on both cameras allows for more light to enter the sensor, ensuring that you capture crisp video even during low-light conditions, when security camera footage is the most needed.

Digital recording flexibility is also aided by mechanical movement as these cameras feature motorised movement for full 360 degree coverage of the environment.

Xiaomi smart cameras are the new generation of security recorders available today and
in South Africa from Takealot, Makro and Incredible Connection.
