Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will let you instantly switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales

  • In an interview with Eurogamer, developer Insomniac Games details how switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales will work in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
  • You’ll be able to freely switch between either character in the open-world, much like GTA V.
  • The developer also notes that each character will have their own skill tree, as well as a shared one.

Last week we saw close to 12 minutes of gameplay for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and while the release of the PS5-exclusive is only happening far later in the year, more details have emerged about this highly anticipated game.

In an interview with Eurogamer, developer Insomniac Games’ creative director Bryan Intihar, explained in more detail how switching between the two protagonists will work.

In the aforementioned gameplay, we saw a specific mission that involved players switching between Peter Parker (in his black symbiote suit) and Miles Morales, as the pair took on Kraven’s henchmen and tried to track down the Lizard. As it turns out, while there are points in the story of the game that are specific to each character, you’ll also be able to switch between each one freely during open-play.

This is not something new to games these days, although it was pioneered by GTA V, and was a key component of its gameplay.

“We have content designed around Peter, we have content designed around Miles and we have content where you can play either. You’ll be able to – in the open world – freely switch between them with a simple button press.” This is thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5,” noted Intihar.

“Being able to switch in the open world so quickly between the two characters is really, really awesome. Just being able to pick and choose who I want to play as for a certain activity… it’s been so awesome to have that feature,” he added.

Other details shared by the creative director include the fact that each character will have their own skill tree, as well as a shared one. It is unclear whether this is tied to similar moves or abilities that each character can gain simply by being webslingers. We’re hoping that the shared skill tree is somehow linked to the black symbiote suit, but we’ll have to wait to see.

Last worth mentioning is the game map size has doubled, as players will be able to explore both Manhattan and Queens, and will likely be putting that new gliding mechanic to good work. City traversal is one of the best aspects of this franchise, so we’re hoping it is even better for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
