Geeks Love Lists Ep 1: The Best Streaming Alternatives

We continue the rollout of our new series of podcasts with the first episode of Geeks Love Lists. You can find the first episodes of Always Online and The Discourse, but for Geeks Love Lists, we’re looking at streaming alternatives.

These are not alternatives to streaming itself, which has quickly become the de facto method for consuming content these days, but rather alternatives to some of the mainstream and more expensive options that dominate the market these days, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.

In this episode we also shine some light on the locally made streaming platforms such as Showmax, eVOD, and SABC+.

As for the streaming alternatives themselves, they run a fairly wide gamut ranging from our preferred platform for accessing anime content in SA, Crunchyroll, to an offering designed to cater to all manner of fist fighting in the form of Fite.tv.

Other picks from our team include BritBox, Dropout.tv, F1 TV and the WWE network.

We also discuss the role that VPNs can play in supercharging any international streaming platform experience. It’s worth pointing out that VPNs carry some risk, especially when it comes to terms of service, but in general, we are advocates of their use, when implemented correctly.

With streaming becoming a costly affair, people need to choose wisely where they spend their money. Hopefully the alternatives listed by our team gives you some food for thought.
