Copilot to feature across more of Windows 11 from next week

  • Microsoft has announced an expansion of its AI assistant Copilot, which is set to be feature in more elements of Windows 11 moving forward.
  • In an upcoming update, as many as 150 new features will be added to the operating system.
  • The expanded Copilot rollout is slated to happen from 26th September.

When it comes to imbuing its products with AI, Microsoft appears to be leading the competition. The company continues with its focus in this area, having announced during an event last night where new Surface hardware was unveiled, that its AI assistant Copilot is coming to more aspects of Windows 11 from next week.

To that end, the AI assistant is set to feature in across multiple products, starting with Windows 11 as part of a large update on 26th September where the new tool will be referred to as the all-encompassing Microsoft Copilot.

“Copilot will begin to roll out in its early form as part of our free update to Windows 11, starting Sept. 26 — and across Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365 Copilot this fall. We’re also announcing some exciting new experiences and devices to help you be more productive, spark your creativity, and to meet the everyday needs of people and businesses,” Microsoft confirmed in a blog post.

As for what the AI tool will bring to the table, over 150 new features are said to be on the way. “Copilot and new AI powered experiences to apps like Paint, Photos, Clipchamp and more right to your Windows PC,” Microsoft added.

The full list of applications set to receive Copilot support are:

  • Paint,
  • Photos,
  • Snipping Tool,
  • Clipchamp,
  • Notepad,
  • Outlook for Windows,
  • File Explorer,
  • Narrator,
  • Windows Backup.

Looking at the other platforms, Bing will receive support for the latest version of the DALL.E 3 image generating model. “DALL.E 3 delivers a huge leap forward with more beautiful creations and better renderings for details like fingers and eyes. It also has a better understanding of what you’re asking for, which results in delivering more accurate images,” it highlighted.

“Microsoft 365 Copilot will be generally available for enterprise customers on Nov. 1, 2023, along with Microsoft 365 Chat, a new AI assistant that will completely transform the way you work,” the company confirmed too.
