Xiaomi has made Robot Vacuums advanced and affordable

One area of tech that has been quietly advancing in the background is home automation. No we’re not talking about smart appliances or connecting everything at home to the internet, but actual automation where jobs done by humans are finally taken over by robots.

Once a pipedream for the wealthy, Xiaomi has improved on the Robot Vacuum idea to the point where it can offer models with advanced functionality at much less than you may be thinking.

Take the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E10 for example. With a RRP of just R4 499 you will be hard pressed to find anything – human or robot – that will reliably vacuum and mop your floors.

Yes, despite having vacuum in the name, this robot can mop too. The Smart Water Tank inside of the robot controls how much water to use. The three water flow levels adapt to the surface that is being cleaned both depending on the amount that needs to be cleaned, and depending on the surface material. Tile, wood, stone and other floor types all require different amounts of water to prevent oversoaking, and the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E10 and the Smart Water Tank can adapt.

This mopping prowess is matched by vacuum power as the 4 000 Pa suction fan can suck up even larger mess particles in a single pass. The four adjustable suction levels can deal with both large and minuscule messes so this Robot Vacuum is ready for whatever you can throw at it.

The drawer dust box and water tank are made to be super simple both in terms of removal and cleaning. Who would have thought that robot maintenance was this easy?

Some people may have seen similar products from other manufacturers stuck in corners, falling down stairs, or failing in many other ways, but not the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E10. The intelligent path planning will see your new Robot Vacuum zigzagging around the floor to not only clean efficiently but also avoid obstacles. Multiple sensors are packed into every part of the robot to adapt to complex environments and avoid pitfalls.

The E10 is one of the most compact Robot Vacuums on the market standing at just eight centimetres tall, allowing it to elegantly slip under beds, couches, chairs, and most other low objects in any home or office. If you’ve been dreading giving those hard-to-reach places a clean, let the robot do it for you instead.

Another downfall of versions from other manufacturers – a low battery life – is again not a problem here. The 2 600 mAh battery gives you 110 minutes of cleaning with standard mode, which includes both vacuum and mop use. Once the battery does deplete it’s time for a trip to the included charging dock (and power adapter, also included in the box) to recharge your Robot Vacuum and get it back to cleaning.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E10 is available in South Africa now through TakealotYuppiechef and Tafelberg.
