The high price of finding love online

The month of romance is upon us and if you’re still looking for a date on Valentine’s Day you may be tempted to download one of the many dating apps available for smartphones in the pursuit of finding love.

From Tinder to Bumble to Bristlr to Koer, there is seemingly no shortage of apps for romantics, no matter what your preferred taste in a partner is. So, for this episode of Always Online we turn our attention to these apps and discover just how many there are, how much they charge for premium access, and discuss whether these apps work.

Of course, we can’t avoid the topic of romance scammers and we spend a bit of time discussing whether paying a premium will yield better results as these apps so often promise.

We also discuss whether social media is an acceptable way to approach prospective partners and more.

With companies such as Tinder reporting revenue of $808 million in 2023, the business of love seems to be incredibly profitable, at least, if you happen to be running a dating platform.

As always you can listen to this episode of Hypertext Presents Always Online using the embeds below or head directly to Spotify or YouTube.
