South Africa may have a new king of ecommerce, and it isn’t Amazon, which is set to launch its local presence sometime this year. Instead, Takealot’s biggest competition hails from the Eastern hemisphere, as Temu has aggressively carved out a space for itself globally and in South Africa too.

To that end, the latest data shows us that Temu is the most downloaded app in SA since it launched in February, overtaking a similar operation in Shein when it comes to getting fast fashion delivered to customers faster than most.
