Avengers expansion War for Wakanda is now live

After launching around a year ago Marvel’s Avengers has its first expansion now live in the form of the Black Panther-themed War for Wakanda.

We’ve seen quite a lot of the expansion before release as part of the marketing machine with the premise here being players travelling to Wakanda to assist the Black Panther in fighting off Ulysses Klaue and his mercenary army (and new enemy faction) the Klaue Company.

Of course players can also take control of the Black Panther, a new playable character with a unique moveset and around 40 outfits, some of which were revealed earlier.

T’Challa is the third post-launch playable character to be added to the game. Both Hawkeye and Kate Bishop were previously made available accompanied by new missions and content designed around them. Black Panther, however, ushers in the largest new content drop for the game so far.

There’s still no word about the much-anticipated, and PlayStation-exclusive, Spider-Man, but it should be commended that this this game continues to receive updates after its very tepid launch. Interest in the title fell off pretty hard after release due to countless problems in a game that seemed designed as a singleplayer brawler that was mutated into a co-op live service affair to make more money.

More details about the expansion can be found here but, before clicking there, just keep in mind that a lot of the information can be considered spoilers, so maybe go into the new content with fresh eyes if you want everything to be brand new.

That official blog post, for example, spoils another established Marvel character appearing in the game which had not been revealed before.

Marvel’s Avengers is available on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. War for Wakanda is a free expansion available to everyone who has access to the game.

You can check out our launch review of the game to read about the aforementioned issues inherent to the design of the title which War for Wakanda will need to address to lure players back in.
