htxt.africast – The Oscars and the age of streaming

It was the Oscar weekend recently, not that many would have known it without the Will Smith incident that made the news, but this edition of africast – sponsored by Redragon’s new range of pink products – isn’t here to discuss that, it’s here to discuss streaming.

Before that it’s time for news starting with Among Us, which experienced a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. While this wouldn’t be worth talking about most of the time the way that the developer handled the situation had us laughing even though it’s a rather serious situation.

Next up is Ukraine which is selling NFTs based on the Russian invasion into its country. We’re usually not the biggest fans of NFTs, but if ever there was a good cause to support them this would be it.

Finally let’s talk about Ghostwire: Tokyo, a game we just wrapped up and whose review you can read below in the list including all the stories mentioned in this africast. We found the game engaging for its story and atmosphere, especially in its recreation of Tokyo, but the actual gameplay left us wanting.

Back to the Oscars now and with CODA, a movie available exclusively on Apple TV+, winning Best Picture, the conversation about the place of streaming content in the old world of awards needs to be had again.
