Fall Guys trailer ushers in move to F2P

A month ago Fall Guys announced a big move to a free to play (F2P model) and now, on the eve of this move, we have a trailer for the new version of the game.

The trailer, which you can watch in the embed below, highlights the gameplay modes that new and old players alike can enjoy: Blast Ball, The Swiveller, Speed Circuit, Bounce Party, Volleyfall, Hex-A-Ring and Track Attack.

While this is clearly marked as a gameplay trailer, we’re a bit surprised that there’s no mention of the upcoming crossovers and other events which are supposed to be a big part of this new version of Fall Guys which goes F2P on 21st June.

“Tomorrow we launch Fall Guys: Free for All! We are SO hyped to go free on all platforms, and to bring you all our best levels yet, biggest collaborations ever, and coolest costumes that we’ve ever made!!” reads the official Twitter account for the game.

The big name in the crossover space is Halo with the two franchises supposed to intersect with an event starting on 30th June. This crossover got its own trailer – a spoof of the 2012 Believe video – but we haven’t been given many details outside of it.

As for the base Fall Guys experience it will be interesting to see how it pans out. The move to F2P, on top of the upcoming removal from Steam, mirrors exactly what happened to Rocket League after it was bought by Epic Games.

Both games are far from their respective heights of popularity but there’s still the chance that lowering the barrier of entry to Fall Guys can rejuvenate it. Will this second lease on life be enough to bring old players back and entire new ones to give it a spin? We’ll have to wait for tomorrow to find out.
