Uber South Africa on gig work, EVs, and its local ambitions

For this episode of Hypertext Presents The Discourse, we sat down with general manager for Uber Sub-Saharan Africa, Kagiso Khaole.

Having occupied the local mobility space for well over a decade, Uber has had many wins, but just as many losses as well. The firm’s score in assessments conducted by Fairwork have consistently plummeted. Despite this, Khaole believes the company has created an environment where drivers can eventually make a living off of the platform.

The discussion also touches on electric mobility, Uber’s history in the country and where it hopes to expand to.
