Today’s episode of the htxt.africast features Adam Oxford talking to Telkom COO on the company’s developing plans for increasing demand for broadband services in South Africa. He touches on why the company is looking at local content producers for streaming video services, and why getting the content mix right is as important as the access technology. There’s a breakdown of why broadband is still so expensive here – and what percentage of the cost is tied up in the access part of the pipeline and a discussion of the price analysis Telkom has done, in which R200 all-in is revealed to be the dream package, but is unlikely to be obtainable any time soon.
Apologies for the slight interference from the air con in the background – a technical glitch with our mics which has been sorted now.
