Time’s 2021 Person of the Year says Tesla will accept Dogecoin to buy merch

This week Elon Musk was named Time’s Person of the Year for 2021.

While the pick may prove divisive for those in the tech community, the publication correctly notes Musk’s social media influence as a key point for why he was chosen, impacting the cryptocurrency market with a single tweet.

Whether he rightly or wrongly wields such power is perhaps a conversation for a different time, but in the interim it looks like Musk wants to experiment with accepting crypto for Tesla once again, recently tweeting out that the company would accept Dogecoin for merchandise purchases.

Whether Tesla will quickly stop accepting Dogecoin remains to be seen, as it did earlier this year shortly after announcing that the company’s EVs could be bought for crypto, but for now it looks like the smaller scale of merchandise is what will be experimented with.

As such we could see the company release more odd, but wildly covetable offerings, like a Tesla surfboard or Cyberwhistle.

As for why Musk chose Doge, he has been a big proponent for the once memecoin and his influence doe snot appeared to have waned following the Person of the Year announcement, with the price of Dogecoin rising to a high of $0.20 after the tweet was sent, but it also fell to $0.18 sharply thereafter.

Either way, his social media antics and interest in crypto show no signs of wavering.
